About Me
Maggie Mae was born Marjorie Howden, from Waskada, Mb. She lived at Waskada until she was six when her father passed away and her Mom moved the family to Pierson, MB. Maggie has resided in Pierson since then, except a short 8 month stay in Brandon where she receive her Cosmetology course. She moved back to Pierson, started up her hair shop and got married. Over the next ten years the business grew and she and her husband had three daughters.
Sadly, Maggie went through a divorce in 1997. This was a difficult time.
She married again, to an old friend, in 2000. They have supported each other through a lot including a stem cell transplant Neil underwent in 2002 which cleared him of leukemia.
One more daughter was added to the family in 2012. All of the girls have graduated high school and are building their futures.
Maggie had to stop work in 2013, because of a persistent fibromyalgia flare. Since then she has been focused on family, recovery, writing and taking Bible School courses.
(That was good practice writing in third person.)

Faith

As a child my parents gave me a foundation of faith but when my father passed away when I was six my beliefs were more than challenged. I was left wondering how a good God could leave me on earth without my Dad, whom I loved so much. My battle became overcoming dyslexia, mono and possibly mild Asperger’s syndrome and feeling so alone, that my heart ached for something stable and normal.
I grew up and married and owned my own successful hairdressing business but I struggled and fought to find my way. At the age of thirty-five as a single mom with fibromyalgia, life’s issues became overwhelming and I reached out to the God that my father had taught me about. I had read a verse in the Bible, when I was about ten, that made me think that God should be actively involved in our lives and at this point I needed Him like never before. It took me a couple of years to trust Him enough to leave a problem with Him and at that point He answered. And He has continued to answer.
God taught me and encouraged me past incredibly low self esteem and had me begin writing and public speaking. The stories intertwined like a perfect braid and looking back at how God weaved everything together it still leaves me amazed. I love God and the adventure He has me living. God has given me a purpose and a hope, and the stability and comfort that I longed for. I am so grateful.

Speaking I began speaking for Stonecroft Ministries in 2000. This has had me speaking in four provinces and two states, speaking over 140 times. I have also spoken for a twelve step support group on a few occasions and spent two weeks speaking at a Bible camp.
I never thought of myself as a speaker, I’m not sure what qualifies you for this, but because I was asked and felt it is something God planned for me to do, I took it on. It is my story and the answers to prayer God set up in my life that have made a way for me, and I enjoy sharing them. (There is starting to be a few to many pictures of me on here) I completed my second year of Bible College in December of 2019 and applied for accreditation through Eagle World Wide Ministries and was accepted. I am officially now a minister. So far only God knows where this is going to take me. |
Writing
After saying a prayer in 1998, in desperation, I began to write. This gave me great hope for the future. It started with children’s stories and poetry and I always thought that would be my focus. I joined the Estevan Writer’s Group in 2001 where I have made some great friends and learned a great deal. I have attended many writer’s workshops, enjoyed numerous writer's retreats, and attended two Canscaip conferences at Lumsden, SK.
I wrote a friend’s war bride story and self-published it with the help of my writer’s group and William Sinclair who shared his self-publishing knowledge with me. Without them none of this would be possible.
After having to quit my life’s work as a hairdresser in 2013, I began writing a novel. It is marinating on a shelf and in my mind now and after it rests just long enough, I will pick it back up and finish it. I am also putting together a devotional, which will include some of the testimonies from my life. This is being God led and has been part of the adventure that I write about in my blog entries.
Drawing is another passion of mine and someday I hope to illustrate children’s stories. I also carve small figures from avocado pits and may display some of them here.
